It is recommended that cyanuric acid be maintained at 30 to 50 ppm to decrease the breakdown of chlorine due to UV radiation (sunlight).
It is recommended that cyanuric acid be maintained at 20 to 40 ppm to decrease the breakdown of chlorine due to UV radiation (sunlight).  These values are based upon a combination of recommendations by the State of Michigan Dept. of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE), Pool & Hot Tub Association (PHTA) and Chemtrol unit.

Our pool is sanitized via an inorganic compound, calcium hypochlorite (unstablized chlorine). As such, it does not contain cyanuric acid and is very sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
